The Overcasters - Eye Shine from Justin C. Larwick on Vimeo.
When it comes to local band Overcasters, there’s rarely a calm before the storm. “Eye Shine” from the group’s latest record, Curses/Prayers, showcases the band’s tempestuous sound. The song wastes little time reaching its break, as frontman Kurt Ottaway unleashes a grizzly roar during the first verse before retreating to his more familiar baritone growl. And the new Overcasters music video for “Eye Shine” is very effective in its straightforward simplicity. No gimmicks. Just the swell of thunderous guitars and the band doing what it does best: rock.
Shot in Ottaway’s own warehouse space, the video’s low saturation evokes the song’s tone. Amidst a scene of hazy gray, the boldest colors come from the musical instruments—most notably Ottaway’s blue guitar and the glow emitting from drummer Erin Tidwell’s cymbals. It’s like watching high activity on a weather map. You've been warned. –Corey H. Jones
